Day Seven: Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and York

Our day started with another hearty English breakfast before a drive through the yorkshire moors. We weaved our way through rough yet beautiful countryside and quaint villages arriving at the sea and the cliffside city of Whitby. We enjoyed lingering about anther ancient ruin, the Whitby Abbey, with the view of the North Sea. The students have anticipated this stop all week. It is the setting from part of Bram Stoker's Dracula which was assigned reading for the trip. We saw the inside of the Whitby church as well and had lunch.

A short distance away is Robin Hood's bay. We climbed down the winding path to the beach and delighted in putting our toes in the cold water! We ducked into the tiny shops and came away with treasures and treats, too.

On our way back toward Leeds, we made a stop in York to view the city wall and towers as well as the beautiful York Minster. Most were asleep on the bus as we approached the hotel. It was a long day of walking. We had a short coffee in our hotel lobby with Steve, our driver. He was reassigned to another tour and so we had our sad goodbye with him. It is hard to describe just how special he was to our group and indeed how special we were to him. He really enjoyed this group of students and went out of his way so often to make our days extra comfortable and very special. Tomorrow we make our way to London.
